Good hair doesn't stay good, without TLC
Your hair is your crown & hair extensions are an investment that should last for more than just a couple of months.
As with our biological hair, we need to take care of our extensions to keep them hydrated, tangle-free & looking beautiful. With that being said, not all products suited for our biological hair are extension-safe.
Kindly read through the Aftercare Guide in this section to familiarise yourself with our recommendations for nourishing and maintaining your extensions.
The longevity & luciousness of your extensions are directly linked to the quality of products used, therefore, we recommend Salon quality / Professional products ONLY.
Please note that although these are only recommendations, deviating from them could affect your Warranty & will most definitely affect the longevity of your extensions.
Aftercare Guide
WASH PROTOCOL
Pre-Wash
A detangling Brush suitable for wet or dry hair with long, soft, flexible bristles should be used.
Gently brush your hair & extensions starting at the ends & work your way up. If you have multiple rows of weft installed, it is recommended to lift the hair & brush underneath the top row aswell to avoid matting.
Frequency
Prioritizing scalp health is important for healthy hair, therefore, we believe that washing 2 to 3 times per week with the correct moisturizing products is more beneficial than washing less with the use of dry shampoos in between washes.
Shampoo
Gently lather & avoid vigorous massages & twists that could tangle or stress the extensions.
Only hydrating, extension-safe, Sulfate & Paraben FREE, Professional shampoos are recommended.
However, it is recommended to use a clarifying shampoo every 2 weeks to remove any product buildup that might occur.
Conditioner
Only apply conditioner to mid-lengths & ends to avoid extension slippage & product buildup at the bonds.
Only hydrating, Sulfate & Paraben FREE, extension-safe, Professional conditioners are recommended.
We also recommend applying a leave-in conditioner to damp hair before styling.
STYLE PROTOCOL
Post-Wash
Towel dry hair by patting & avoid vigorous rubbing.
Styling Aids
It is recommended to apply a leave-in conditioner suitable for extensions AND a thermal heat protector. Never skip a thermal heat protector as this product will protect your natural hair & extensions from heat damage.
Tools
Always ensure that your hair dryer is set to low / medium heat & never high heat in order to avoid heat damage. Never blow hot air directly onto bonds, as excessive heat may melt & compromise them.
Straighteners & curling tongs should be used minimally & if used must not be set to higher than 170 degrees celsius. Never apply straighteners or curling tongs directly onto bonds as they will melt.
AFTERCARE FAQ'S
What products should be avoided?
Avoid the use of Olaplex for use on extensions entirely & avoid excessive use of dry shampoos & heavy hair oils.
Heavy hair oils can cause a build up on your extensions, therefore, it is recommended to wash with a Clarifying Shampoo every 1 to 2 weeks.
What daily practices should I follow besides using salon-recommended products?
In addition to professional products and treatments, follow simple daily habits like proper brushing, protective styling at night, and careful drying / styling (avoiding high heat temps) to keep extensions healthy. Applying a light-weight hair oil daily is also beneficial in keeping your locks hydrated.
How should I protect my extensions while sleeping?
Very long extensions can tangle or mat. To prevent this, braid your hair or secure it in a high bun before bed.
Silk pillowcases / bonnets (not Satin) are one of the best things you can use for both your own hair and hair extensions. The benefits come from how silk behaves as a fabric — smooth, low-friction, breathable, and moisture-protective.
Why are Silk Pillowcases good for hair & extensions?
♡ Less Friction = Less Tangling & Matting
Cotton has texture, grabs the hair, and creates friction when you toss and turn.
Silk is extremely smooth, so the hair glides across it.
Extensions benefit because:
Silk decreases mechanical damage, which is critical since extensions cannot repair themselves.
♡ Prevents Dryness
Cotton is absorbent. It pulls moisture and oils out of your hair & extensions.
Silk is non-absorbent, so it keeps hydration in the hair.
Benefits:
- Extensions stay soft for longer
- Ends don’t dry out prematurely
- Your natural hair retains shine and elasticity
♡ Reduces Frizz
Because silk doesn’t create friction or dehydrate the hair, you wake up with:
- Smoother cuticles
- Less static
- Less puffiness
♡ Helps Prevent Breakage
Extensions are more fragile than natural hair because:
- They no longer receive scalp oils
- They undergo chemical processing,
- They depend on external care
The smooth glide of silk reduces:
- Mid-strand snapping
- Knotting-related breakage
- Split ends
This preserves the lifespan of the extensions.
What’s the best way to brush extensions?
Use a detangling brush or one designed specifically for extensions. Brush gently and regularly to remove knots without damaging the bonds.
Can I use heat styling tools on extensions?
Avoid placing straighteners or curling irons directly onto bonds, as this can weaken or melt the bonds. Also, do not exceed 170°C, since extension hair is more porous than natural hair.
High heat can also change the colour of your hair extensions, as high heat can trigger oxidation, especially in blonde extensions.
How should I dry my extensions after washing?
Always dry the bonds immediately after wetting. Remove as much moisture as possible to prevent added weight that can strain your scalp or swelling of the bonds.
ALWAYS apply a thermal heat protector before exposing hair to heat.
What environmental factors should I avoid?
Limit exposure to chlorine, salt water, sunscreens, and tanning products. If exposure is unavoidable, apply leave-in conditioners and protective serums beforehand.
Will my stylist provide aftercare instructions?
Yes, your stylist should explain personalized aftercare and maintenance steps to ensure your extensions last and remain healthy.
